As a new year approaches, many of us reflect on how we can grow in our relationship with God and make a greater impact in the lives of others.
One way we can do this is by sharing our faith more boldly. Yet, sharing our faith can feel intimidating. What if we don’t know what to say?
What if people reject or misunderstand us? These concerns are natural, but God calls us to be His witnesses and equips us to share His love with those around us.
Here are practical ways to share your faith more boldly in the coming year, relying on God’s Word for encouragement and direction.
Remember God’s Command to Share the Gospel
Sharing our faith is not just a suggestion—it’s a calling for every believer.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gave the Great Commission: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
This command reminds us that sharing the gospel is at the heart of our mission as followers of Christ.
When we remember that sharing our faith is a part of God’s plan, it gives us a sense of purpose.
It’s not about being perfect or having all the answers—it’s about being faithful to the call and trusting God to work through us.
Pray for Boldness and Opportunities
One of the most effective ways to share your faith boldly is to start with prayer.
Ask God to give you courage, wisdom, and the words to speak when opportunities arise.
The early church is a great example of this. In Acts 4:29, the apostles prayed, “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.”
Pray for specific opportunities to share your faith with friends, family, coworkers, or even strangers.
When you ask God for these moments, He will open doors you never expected. Prayer also helps you stay focused on relying on God’s strength rather than your own.
Live Out Your Faith Authentically
Before we speak a single word about our faith, our actions often speak for us.
In Matthew 5:16, Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Living a life of kindness, humility, and integrity can open doors for conversations about faith.
When people see the love of Christ in your actions—how you treat others, how you handle challenges, and how you extend grace—they may be curious about the source of your hope.
Let your life be a reflection of the gospel, and be ready to share the reason for your faith when asked.
Share Your Personal Testimony
Your story of how God has worked in your life is one of the most powerful tools you have for sharing your faith.
People may not relate to theological arguments, but they can connect with personal experiences.
In 1 Peter 3:15, we are encouraged to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”
Take time to reflect on your testimony. How has God changed your life?
What prayers has He answered? What challenges has He helped you overcome? Share these stories honestly and humbly, giving God the glory.
Don’t Be Afraid of Rejection
One of the biggest fears about sharing faith is the possibility of rejection.
It’s important to remember that our job is to share the message, not to control the outcome.
In John 15:18-20, Jesus reminded His disciples, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.”
Rejection is not a reflection of your worth or effectiveness; it’s often a reflection of the listener’s heart.
Trust God to work in the hearts of those who hear the message, even if their response isn’t immediate. Be faithful in planting seeds and leave the results to Him.
Equip Yourself with God’s Word
Sharing your faith boldly means being prepared to answer questions and explain the gospel.
This doesn’t mean you need to be a Bible scholar, but it’s helpful to familiarize yourself with key verses and truths about salvation.
Romans 10:17 reminds us, “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
Spend time in Scripture, not just for personal growth but also to equip yourself to share it with others.
Verses like John 3:16, Romans 3:23, and Ephesians 2:8-9 are great starting points for explaining God’s plan of salvation.
Trust in the Holy Spirit
Ultimately, sharing your faith is not something you do alone. The Holy Spirit empowers and guides you every step of the way.
In Acts 1:8, Jesus said, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses.”
Rely on the Holy Spirit to give you the words to speak, the courage to share, and the wisdom to navigate conversations.
Trust that God will work through you, even if you feel inadequate or nervous.
Sharing your faith boldly in the coming year is a journey of trust, prayer, and action.
By remembering God’s command, praying for opportunities, living out your faith authentically, sharing your testimony, overcoming fear of rejection, equipping yourself with Scripture, and relying on the Holy Spirit, you can be a light in a world that needs to hear the good news.
As you step into the new year, ask God to use you to impact others for His kingdom. Boldly share His love, trusting that your faithfulness will bring glory to Him and hope to those around you.
