7 Fascinating Facts About Angels
1. There Are Too Many Angels to Be Counted
The Bible indicates that angels are too numerous to count.
“And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands.”
— Revelation 5:11
“But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels.”
— Hebrews 12:22
2. Angels Have Rank and Order
Michael is the only angel designated as an archangel in the Bible (Jude 9). His mission is as a protector of Israel.
The word archangel comes from the Greek archangelos, meaning “chief angel.” It refers to an angel of the highest rank, one who is in authority over other angels.
There were chief princes mentioned in Daniel 10:13, of whom Michael was one—among the highest-ranking angels of God.
3. Cherubim Are the Highest Order of Angels
Cherubim are angelic beings of the highest rank, possessing indescribable beauty and power. Their appearance and character are far beyond human imagination—so glorious and incomprehensible that the human mind cannot fully grasp them.
They are protectors of the holiness of God and always appear surrounding His presence. They guard His holiness and at times proclaim His grace.
Gabriel, Michael, and Lucifer are the three named cherubim in Scripture.
Cherubim are mentioned throughout Scripture:
-
They guarded the entrance to the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:24).
-
God is enthroned above them (Ezekiel 10:1–22).
-
God rides on them (Psalm 18:10).
-
Two golden cherubim sit above the Ark of the Covenant, where God promised to dwell among His people (Exodus 25:18–22).
4. Seraphim Are Another Class of Angels
Seraphim, meaning “burning ones,” are mentioned only once in the Bible. They appear around God’s throne in Isaiah 6:2–7, continually worshiping the Lord and proclaiming:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.”
— Isaiah 6:3
They are described as having six wings:
-
With two they covered their faces
-
With two they covered their feet
-
With two they flew
5. Angels Never Die
Angels are immortal. From the moment of their creation, they live forever and never die.
But this is also true of humanity. Every person will live forever—either with God or without Him.
6. Angels Are Not to Be Worshiped
Angels are servants of God and must not be worshiped.
In the book of Revelation, an angel warns John:
“You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.”
— Revelation 19:10
7. Believers Will Judge Angels
The Apostle Paul reminds believers of their future authority in Christ when warning Christians not to take one another to court:
“Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, matters of this life?”
— 1 Corinthians 6:3
